Forest Preschool is a program designed for children ages 3-5. It takes place during the school year in all weather. Our Reggio teaching philosophy places great importance on the learning environment, which is why we believe the best classroom is outdoors. Our learning goals for young children lean strongly on social and emotional development which is vital for early childhood education. In Forest Preschool, we focus mostly on developing good habits that will help our students achieve academic goals down the road. Habits we focus on for this age group include: obedience, patience, attentiveness, observation, wonder, and gentleness. Students are also exposed to educational songs, letters, numbers and the calendar, but most of our learning is done through play, songs, and stories. We teach developmentally appropriate subjects from a biblical worldview. Free Haven has both drop-off and stay-and-play class options for young children.
HOW DOES ALL-WEATHER OUTDOOR SCHOOL WORK?
Our motto at forest school is: "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes." Appropriate clothing for Forest Preschool is CRITICAL to the success of the program. Clothing guidelines are available in the parent handbook. Our experienced teachers will be there to guide you every step of the way to ensure the safety of students in all weather situations. During periods of inclement weather, students will be gathered indoors, or class will be cancelled if necessary.

DROP-OFF FOREST PRESCHOOL
This is a 2- hour weekly program for families with children aged 0-6 to attend together! Perfect for homeschooling families, or families who aren't quite ready to start a traditional schooling route yet. A caregiver must attend with the student to participate in forest school together. Learn new songs, play games and do art projects together as our teacher facilitates. We provide the tools and supplies, while you get to have fun learning along with us. All subjects will be explored from a biblical worldview. You can take our forest school rhythm and try doing it at home. Our certified forest school teacher will help guide you so you can create the perfect school schedule for your family beyond our weekly classes. Meet like-minded families, and have fun together this school year! Children ages 2 and under attend free with a participating 3-6-year-old sibling. This outdoor program meets weekly on Thursdays from 1-3pm at our private forests school site in Mokena, IL with access to our heated schoolhouse building during inclement weather.
This is a 3-hour outdoor program for potty-trained 3-5 year-olds that takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9am-12pm every week. Choose to attend 1 to 3 days per week. Our low-ratio classes are limited to 10 students with a ratio of at least 1:5. Each day is started with songs, letters, counting and calendar, followed by a child-led nature exploration & study. All subjects will be explored from a biblical worldview. Each month we will study a new interest topic chosen by the students. Students will have exposure to many hands-on art and science projects that will help them retain important concepts and information. By allowing children to construct their own learning, they have an opportunity to practice many skills that will equip them for a bright and successful future. These skills include: leadership, independence, empathy, curiosity, the ability to research, and most important, self-confidence. This program will meet at our private forest school site in Mokena, IL with access to our heated schoolhouse building during inclement weather.
